Back to Basics: An Algorithmic Approach to Low Back Pain
The past decade has witnessed tremendous advances in our knowledge of the spine and low back pain. This course reviews current concepts on the spine and develops an algorithmic management approach that incorporates important new concepts such as Red and Amber flags, the biopsychosocial model of illness and how to use "phase" as a management guide. This course utilizes the memory aid "SUCCESSFUL" to describe how to effectively achieve this goal. Although this course focuses on Workers' Compensation injuries, most of the principles also apply to insurance claims and other 3rd party issues. Four Thought on the Knee: A Systematic Approach to Knee Pain Utilizing a simple memory aid, and a rapid systematic office-examination technique, this course greatly enhances the clinician's ability to identify and manage the most common causes of knee pain. The "Four-thought" memory aid states: "Every knee consists of one synovium, two menisci, three compartments and four ligaments for a total of 10 common sources of knee pain; all of which should be carefully examined for." The "four-thought" examination provides a rapid yet comprehensive diagnostic tool.Accredited by the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and the New Brunswick Chapter, for three MAINPRO-M1 credits.
